What is a WETLAND? Wetlands are home to animals that grow and breed in water other wise known as hydrophytes. What is a MANGROVE? A mangrove live with one foot on water the other on land.A mangrove environment refers to a habitat that consists of salt tolerant plants. They grow in estuaries near the equator. Have to know facts !!!!! ![]() Wetlands are perfect environments for water loving flora and flora. They provide essential resources and play a role a habitat for all the creatures and hydrophytes. ![]() Mangroves are very crucial to our wetland and salty environments. They are one of a kind as they are the ONLY plants to survive in these harsh salty plains.Their roots function in a completely different way to other plants. The way they tolerate with salt is by shifting their roots from the bottom to the top.As a result, the roots, that allow the mangrove to filter air,are not disrupted by the salty marshes and estuaries that are very hard to breathe in. ![]() More Mangroves !!!!!
There are many different ways seeds can be deposited. Some are parachutes that glide down ,others are carried along with wildlife such as birds. But the mangrove seed has a unique way of disposing its seed. When a mangrove seed is sufficiently fertilised,it is ready to be dispersed in the water. Once the seed has plundered into the water,it is then carried along with the flow of the brackish water in the estuary. When the seed is riding the flow,a protective layer deteriorates and releases the mangrove seed from capture. It then plugs itself to the ground and stays there for the fertilisation needed to grow.
